Promod Kumar, PE

Vice President & Director of MEP Engineering

Affectionately known throughout the office as “PK,” Promod Kumar, PE is more than just KAI’s Vice President and Director of MEP Engineering. A former two-term member of the governor-appointed Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Landscape Architects, Promod’s passion for engineering is unparalleled. As a board member, Promod enjoyed “the opportunity to interact with people across Missouri, enhancing the profession of engineering.”

Promod’s love for engineering began as a child growing up in India with his first “Mechano” set, and was fostered by his father and grandfather, both in the surveying profession. After moving to St. Louis in 1970, Promod, along with a small group of friends began the India Association of St. Louis. Promod and a group of dedicated friends helped create the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Center in Ballwin. The India Association, along with donations from members, purchased a 5½-acre plot in 1984 and, through fundraisers such as selling cookbooks and holding fairs on the undeveloped land, they were able to complete the construction of the center and temple in 1992.

When he’s not managing multi-million dollar MEP projects, Promod enjoys gardening, tennis, reading, shopping for new suspenders, and spending time with his doctor son and movie star daughter. His daughter, Pooja, won the Miss India USA pageant in 1995, and has since appeared in more than 10 feature films, numerous television shows, and major international ad campaigns. She has been seen most recently on an episode of Law and Order: SVU, and starring opposite Chris Kattan in the IFC miniseries Bollywood Hero. Promod’s son, Paraag, recently graduated medical school in New York and is currently completing his residency in Austin, Texas.
