Saint Louis Art Museum to close for 2 weeks

The Saint Louis Art Museum will close for two weeks beginning Sunday night to prepare for the June 29 opening of its $130.5 million Sir David Chipperfield-designed East Building.

The two-week closure will begin at 5 p.m. June 16, and the museum will reopen with a two-day, public celebration starting June 29.

Matthew Hathaway, spokesman for the Saint Louis Art Museum, said that during the two-week closure there will be small demolition work to connect the old Cass Gilbert-designed building to the new structure. He said staff training for the a 100-seat restaurant called Panorama and a 60-seat cafe also will occur during the period.
