St. Louis Community College’s Harrison Education Center (HEC) was designed under LEED NC v2.1 in hopes of achieving a LEED Gold certification. Its site is a collection of several vacant lots in an inner city residential neighborhood in north central St. Louis City that was until recently in decline. Due to the site’s central location, proximity to the city’s historical performing arts district and local reinvestment over the past few years, the area has experienced significant redevelopment. Because of these reasons, the St. Louis Community College system selected this site for its newest and most-sustainable satellite campus.
